This beginners' workshop is for anyone who wants to make a ceramic object, regardless of function, out of clay. No previous experience is necessary, you will receive plenty of guidance.
The focus will be on hand building and sculpture techniques with a particular consideration for surface treatments/texture. You can choose from a variety of clays (white, tan, grey, black) that will react differently with the glazes. There will also be a choice of textured glazes to give the piece a very tactile feel.

It takes place over the course of 2.5 hours, an evening at my studio in Lichtenberg. It offers an opportunity to get your hands into clay, learn a bit about ceramics and make a ceramic object out of clay that I will fire and glaze for you after the course.
How long: 2.5 hrs
Where: At my studio
What: Make a small sculpture out of clay
Participants: maximum 5
The duration of the workshop will be spent making the sculptures as I offer you guidance and support to achieve what you have in mind. You can make multiple sculptures if you have time, but size is limited.
Before the course you can send me a drawing or your ideas if you like so that I can be prepared to help you make the piece. Sketches, photos, links of something you've seen are possible. This is not obligatory and I can also give you ideas on the day if you wish! Don’t worry if you don’t know what to make, I'll teach you easy techniques.
You will have time to make a simple sculpture or objects out of clay. I will then allow the pieces to dry, and fire and glaze them for you and you can pick up your piece two weeks later.
We will focus on form but also on surface treatments and make a glazing plan, choosing from various textured glazes and rough or glossy finishes to get a striking piece.
Spaces are limited to five people!
The workshop is non-refundable, any cancellations will result in a voucher that you can redeem on my shop or on the next workshop.
